Mission Statement: Our mission is to .. Our History: Pederson’s Gardens & Landscapes: A Family Business In 1990, Edith Pederson completed the Master Gardener Core Program through the University of Minnesota Extension, St Louis County. For several years after completion, she presented a 5-part series of classes entitled, "The Basics of Perennial Garden Design," through the Duluth Community Education Program. During the time of teaching, something developed she never anticipated. Students requested that she design and install their gardens. This seemed preposterous to her. After all, she and her husband, Alan, were working full time; Alan for the City of Superior and Edith for KBJR-TV. Edith couldn’t stop thinking about how much she would love to design and install gardens and landscapes. She attended more classes, became a Certified Landscape Design Critic. She read volumes on all aspects of horticulture and landscape design. In 1991, she accepted her first challenge; to design and install a small landscape The homeowner was thrilled with the result, and the dream grew. After completing a few more landscapes, Pederson’s became a "weekend company." In 1991, Alan retired from his job. Edith designed gardens evenings; Alan constructed them during the week. They worked together to install gardens on weekends. In 1997, Edith retired and Pederson’s Gardens & Landscapes became their full-time retirement career. In 1998, Son, Jim, joined the company and moved through the ranks to become Manager-Landscape Department Alan and Edith, with sons, Joe and Jim, developed a 3-acre garden center on their 50-acre country property, located at 5575 South Eastman Road, 13 miles southeast of Superior. The garden center was designed with the help of a local assisted-living agency, to provide an area that, except for demonstration gardens located on the hillside, is 95% handicapped-accessible. In 1999, Pederson’s Garden Center was officially launched. Today, the garden center blends with the beautiful countryside that includes a magnificent view of Lake Superior. Many demonstration gardens have been designed by local garden artists and serve as learning tools for customers. Visitors enjoy strolling the garden paths, a positive shopping experience, having refreshments in "The Little Café," and just enjoying a day in the country. Staff: Pederson’s enjoys a staff of dedicated workers and volunteers, made up of master gardeners, landscape specialists and folks who love to garden. Staff and volunteer enthusiasm shows in the friendly, helpful way they treat customers.
